Marissa Stewart, Ph.D.

Assistant Director for Instructional Development and Programming

Marissa Stewart earned her Ph.D. in anthropology from the Ohio State University by examining the biological evidence for social inequality in medieval Italian cemeteries. She also received a M.S. from University of Maryland Global Campus in Learning Design and Technology to better support student learning in an online environment. She has taught undergraduate courses that spanned the breadth of anthropology and graduate courses about teaching and learning, as well as statistics for applied anthropologists. At the CTE, she oversees many of our pedagogical support programs, including the annual Course Design Retreat, the Faculty Fellowship Program, Connect & Collaborate instructional support meet-ups, and teaching portfolio support. She partners with faculty and graduate student instructors to work on any pedagogical questions, but is particularly passionate about supporting evidence-based course design, student learning and engagement, assessment, and inclusive teaching practices.
